The sky didn't just open; it shattered.

One moment, the Lower Ward was a muted landscape of grey fog and industrial rot, and the next, it was a world of blinding, violent gold. The clouds above the Bridge of Sighs swirled into a perfect, concentric halo, and from the center of that divine eye, Aurelius the Radiant descended. He didn't fall. He arrived. He was a being of polished white plate and wings made of solid, humming sunlight. His presence created a "Golden Vacuum," a zone of such intense Mana-pressure that the rain evaporated before it could hit the ground, and the smog of the slums was pushed back like a physical curtain.

Elara clung to the rusted steel of the watchtower, her tungsten claws shrieking against the metal. Her electric blue eyes narrowed, her pupils thinning into vertical slits as the [Symbiosis] in her blood went into a frantic, defensive frenzy.

The air grew heavy, tasting of ozone and ancient, cold stone. Aurelius hovered thirty feet above the bridge, his gaze fixed on her with the detached curiosity of a gardener looking at a particularly stubborn weed. He didn't look angry. He looked disappointed. The sheer weight of his existence made the bridge cables groan, the rusted metal sagging under the spiritual mass of a man who had been worshipped as a god for three decades.

"Look at you," Aurelius said.

His voice wasn't a sound; it was a physical weight. The words rippled through the air, hitting Elara’s chest like a battering ram. It was the "Truth" of the System, a command for all things to settle into their natural order. And in the natural order of Aethelgard, Elara was a mistake.

"A parasite wrapped in the skin of a girl," he continued, his voice echoing in the hollow of her skull. "You have stolen the heart of the Cathedral, yet you still walk in the mud. Kneel, and perhaps the fire will be quick."

"I've spent enough time on my knees," Elara rasped.

She didn't wait for his permission to move. She launched.

Aurelius didn't reach for a sword. He simply pointed a finger. A series of Light-Lances—beams of condensed solar mana—erupted from the air around him. They didn't travel; they were simply there, occupying the space where Elara had been a microsecond before. She abandoned the tower just as it was turned into a molten spike of slag. She leaped into the open air, her body a blur of purple shadow as she triggered her [Void-Step].

She blinked through the forest of golden beams, the heat searing the obsidian scales on her jaw. Every transition felt like her skin was being peeled back. The Radiant’s mana was so pure it acted as a solvent for her Void energy, dissolving her shadows as fast as she could manifest them. She was a moth dancing in a blowtorch, and the torch was only just beginning to flicker.

From the apex of her leap, Elara looked down.
